MV ESRA A of ARKAS Line, made its first call at the Batumi International Container Terminal (BICT) last 5th February 2012. The ESRA A, which was built in 1985, has a total cargo intake of 700 TEUs. For its maiden call, the ESRA A handled a total of 222 TEUs for BICT. BICT’s Management Team - Mr. Aurelio Garcia (Deputy to CEO/GM), Keti Oragvelidze (Marketing Manager), and Giorgi Tsuladze (Operations Manager), went on board the MV ESRA A to welcome Capt. Murat Yucel with his crew and presented them with a portrait reproduction of a 1920 photo of Batumi Harbour. |

Construction of Customs Clearance Zone (GEZI) has started. The contract for building works was signed with ANAGI LLC on the 25th of November and first workers appeared at the site next day. New building for Customs officers and clients, car park area and access gate will be build within next 5 month on the area of 7261sqm with the estimated cost of over 3.5 million lari (abt. 2 million USD). The project is based on co-operation of Revenue Service and BICT. Upon completion the quality and scope of services available on our terminal will significantly improve. This project is also an essential contribution to overall development of the country. |

On the 7th of November BICT presented to municipality requests for building permissions for new GEZI (Customs Clearance Zone). Formal tender process for construction works will be announced still this week and process of recruiting potential companies for the task has already started. Interested parties are welcome to present for the bidding - more info is available on request. Initial preparatory works on the area designed for construction have started as well. Construction works will not hamper normal operations of the terminal and within few months clients and Customs officers will benefit from new facilities. BICT received Award of Recognition for Highest Growth in 2010. The ceremony took place on the 16th of September 2011 in Odessa during International Black Sea Container Summit. in 2010 BICT recorded growth of 85,2 % year-to-year and was on of the three ports with highest growth rate amongst all Black Sea ports. On the 27th of August BICT received biggest container vessel in the history of Georgian ports. MSC UKRAINE with length of 202m and width of 31m was built in Poland in 1989 and presently serves in MSC fleet. During 44 hours operations terminal discharged and loaded 2400 TEU on that vessel with an average productivity over 30 moves per hour. The event was covered by all major TV stations in Georgia. As from 3rd of May 2011 Customs provide full clearing services for all cargo passing through BICT. Overall number of Customs officers was increased and also Customs experts service is available on the spot. BICT and Customs are very glad to offer this new quality service to our clients and we hope that this move will boost traffic through our terminal. At the same time Revenue Service and BICT work hand in hand to develop new cargo clearing facility for the future in line with government expectations for providing quick, simple, transparent and comfortable for clients service. |

We are pleased to announce that as from 4th of March ipay opened a branch within BICT premises. The clients may now pay all clearing charges, expeditors’ fees, BICT fees and other taxes quickly and comfortably without going out of port territory. |

M/V Gozde Bayraktar recently chartered by MSC vessel started regular calls to Batumi on the 8th of February 2011. The vessel with nominal capacity of 1280 TEU was built in June 2009; length 157m, width 25m. Vessel sails on the route Istanbul - Batumi - Tabzon - Istanbul and round trip takes 7 days. By adding his vessel to the service MSC boosts carrying capacity to Batumi having already MSC Sebnem calling BICT regularly. |
